Have hackers been taking advantage of remote access tool TeamViewer to spy on victims? That appears to be the case, according to a recent post from security blog CrySyS.
“Many of the victims appear to be ordinary users, but some of the victims are high profile industrial, research, or diplomatic targets, including the case that triggered our investigation,” commented the post. The trouble, however, doesn’t end there. Aside from spying, the attackers can also use the platform to install other malicious things.
TeamViewer is supposedly modified by the hackers via something DLL hijacking. To date, some victims of the hack attack have included a Hungarian government official, research and educational institutions in France and Belgium, an Embassy in Russia and a Middle-East electronics firm.
